Preventive Care
A preventive program is a cooperative effort by the patient, dentist, and dental staff to preserve the natural dentition and supporting structures by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions.
If you are interested in routine dental care or teeth cleaning, you are in the right place! Our experienced dentists provide quality preventive care as part of our commitment to your overall oral health. Our practice recommends that you visit twice a year to have your teeth professionally evaluated and cleaned to help maintain your healthiest and happiest smile.
Expert Teeth Cleaning for the Entire Family
As part of your regular oral health exam, our registered dental hygienist will perform a professional dental cleaning. This cleaning will remove tartar and plaque from your teeth both above and below your gum line. Even the most careful at-home brushing and flossing methods don’t fully clean the tartar and plaque off your teeth.
However, our special dental instruments can get rid of anything that stubbornly clings to your smile. Also, our complete dental cleaning includes thorough teeth polishing to remove any residual stains or plaque.

Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer includes cancers of the lips, tongue, floor of the mouth, cheeks, throat (pharynx), sinuses, and hard and soft palate. While oral cancer can usually be successfully treated when detected early, most oral cancer cases are not detected until they have progressed into a more severe and advanced stage that is much more difficult to treat. Oral cancer may be life-threatening.
At our office, we are dedicated to doing all we can to detect and treat oral cancers and other abnormalities at the earliest possible stage. During your routine dental cleanings and exams at our office, our dentist and team will perform an oral cancer screening to check for the signs of oral cancer.
Reasons for oral cancer examinations
It is important to note that around 75 percent of oral cancers are linked with modifiable smoking, tobacco use and excessive alcohol consumption. When oral cancer is diagnosed in its earliest stages, treatment is generally very effective.
The following are common symptoms of oral cancer:
- A persistent sore throat or feeling that something is caught at the back of the throat
- Unexplained bleeding in the mouth
- A persistent or lasting sore on the face, neck or mouth that bleeds easily and does not heal within two weeks
- Unexplained loss of feeling, pain or numbness in the face, neck or mouth
- Ear pain
- Lumps, bumps or rough spots on the gums, lips or other parts of the mouth
- Red, white or speckled red-and-white patches in the mouth
- Difficulty chewing, speaking or swallowing
- A change in the way your teeth or dentures fit together
While our team will perform a screening for oral cancer to check for these and other symptoms, we encourage you to contact us if you notice any of these problems or if you experience any other type of dental pain

Night Guards / Sports Guards
Mouthguards
Also known as sports guards or athletic mouth protectors, mouthguards are crucial pieces of equipment for anyone participating in potentially injurious recreational or sporting activities.
Fitting snugly over the upper teeth, mouth guards protect the entire oral region from traumatic injury, preserving both the esthetic appearance and the smile’s health. In addition, mouth guards are sometimes used to prevent tooth damage in children who grind (brux) their teeth at night.
Mouthguards also reduce the prevalence of the following injuries:
- Cheek lesions
- Concussions
- Gum and soft tissue injuries
- Jawbone fractures
- Lip lesions
- Neck injuries
- Tongue lesions
- Tooth fractures
Customized mouth guards
These mouth guards offer the most significant degree of protection and are custom-made by the dentist. To do this, an impression of the teeth is made first using unique material, and then the mouth guard is constructed over the mould. Customized mouth guards are more comfortable and orthodontically correct.
If you have questions or concerns about choosing a mouth guard for you or your child, please contact our office today!
